The legend of Silly Lizzy

There’s something about Lizzy, she is a bit annoying but the most annoying things about her are somewhat like me… when I looked above my circumstances… when I changed my attitude life started to change. It also features my one day famous saying…

Sympathy is addictive one craves it like a drug;

Beware the overly Sympathetic...

Sympathy is never Ever FREE.

Elizabeth DeValli had 2 respectable parents who loved Harmony, Justice and fighting dragons. Tahnee and Lockie loved all their daughters very much, but supposed Elizabeth to be a somewhat unusual child as the middle of three girls she had trouble getting along with her sisters and even more trouble making close friends. Lizzy, as she was often called in her childhood, was given the gift of a „good imagination‟ by the wise fairy Kathléna and she longed for a kindred spirit a really close friend who actually understood her. She often found herself alone day-dreaming causing her peers and even her sisters to further misunderstand her; they would often catch her talking to her invisible friends, and smiling for no apparent reason “off with the Pixies,” they‟d laugh as they walked away.

Although she had known reasonably little pain or suffering in her life and her parents taught her and her sisters of brave and famous Dragon-Fighters, such as Solomon the Daring and Kateleigh and Danika the ingenious who lived a thousand years ago and fought many dragons; Lizzy spent most of her days dreaming of a better family, nicer friends and a fantastic life. What Lizzy was yet to understand was how good her life really was and how many blessings there were enriching her life that she overlooked every day. Things like beautiful smiles of her little sister, warm hugs from her Mum, a Dad who was firm but fair, enough food to eat, a nice warm bed, a house to keep out the cold (yes, even though she had to share her room) clear air and clean drinking water. Lizzy was not a bad person, she just did not realise how many good things she had in her life that she could be thankful for.

When Lizzy would get into trouble for fighting with her sisters (usually Renée) she would go off and sulk in her tree house, saying to anyone who would listen: “Renée is such a liar, she broke her word again, I'm stupid for even believing what she said” or “It’s not fair!

My sisters always pick on me, if I had been given nicer sisters, we wouldn’t be having this problem” She conveniently forgot the ways she used to cause mischief and stir trouble by hiding their toys/make-up and playing childish tricks on them, that made them feel ridiculous.

When she did not do well in her tests at school she would blame it on not having been given smarter brains. However her teachers would often catch her gazing out of the window, day-dreaming. They would say: “Lizzy are you working?”

“Yes,” Lizzy would tersely reply, annoyed about having her thoughts interrupted.

When Lizzy became older she used to dream of a knight riding along on his palomino horse and rescuing her from her nasty sisters and boring life. In fact, she was so busy dreaming one day as she was out riding her buckskin (for all you non-horsey people that is a horse creamy in colour with brown mane and tail), Hermes that she didn’t see a blue dragon had appeared in front the horse and scared him. Hermes jumped to the side and bolted. Lizzy lost her seat landing on the hard ground. She didn’t see that the dragon had “pony for dinner”. In fact, she didn’t see anything for almost an hour.

She woke up in a warm bed in a strange house with a deceptively handsome young man, (in rather shabbier than usual clothes) who introduced himself as Ralph-Ray and told her that her horse had run off and it was lucky she fell, and he rescued her, because her horse fell over a cliff. Lizzy was sad about losing Hermes, she wept until her head ached and her sight was fuzzy. Ralph-Ray gave her red medicine called Sympathy, it tasted very nice and would make her feel better for a time, but eventually she would feel sad again. In fact whenever Lizzy would complain, Ralph-Ray would always have plenty of Sympathy ready for her. What she didn‟t know, was that all of her complaining was making his pet blue dragon bigger, and the bigger the dragon grew, the more miserable Lizzy felt.

The other thing that Lizzy definitely did not realise was that Ralph-Ray was preparing to make her into dragon’s dinner any day now. He chained her in his dungeon and everyday he would check on her. When she cried and told him that she thought he was her friend, he laughed wickedly and told her about the other people who ended up in the same place that she was going... Dragon’s Belly.

“Wa Ha Ha Ha Ho” he laughed loudly as Lizzy cried.

Lizzy started to realise, that her life at home had been pretty good compared to the one she had now. She started to miss her family even, Renée. Her problems with her older sister seemed humongous several days ago but miniscule now… Renée - the sister who always called her immature, locked her out of their room whenever she had friends over, put a line of masking tape down the middle of the room and screamed like a banshee if she put even a toe over the border, never shared her things unless their parents made her and borrowed Lizzy’s things all the time without asking first. Lizzy thought that if she ever got out of here, she would love to see them again, even for a moment. She wanted to apologise for taking them for granted.

She started to be thankful for her family, and as she thought of reasons to be thankful, more and more reasons popped into her head and the dragon started to get smaller.

Ralph-Ray was worried about his pet and went to get some dragon medicine, from the door-to-door salesman who came to the house, the next day.

While the salesman was showing his medicines to Ralph-Rae, three Dragon-fighters crept past him in an effort to find the trapped Lizzy. Cara, was ready with the Salt that she flung at the dragon. The salt hit him as he flew away, but his cry alerted Ralph-Rae.

Michael (the peddler) was ready for him, telling Ralph-Ray that it sounded like he really needed a lot of this one pointing to the big barrel, of a greenish vomit looking medicine. Naming a very outrageous price, he pointed out that the dragon may not live without it. So Ralph-Ray went out to his well (the secret hiding place, his aunt had for all her gold, which she didn't need any more) to purchase the medicine.

The dragon-fighters went through the house looking for Lizzy, Deborah found her first and untied her, while Lord Forest carried her out to the carriage which was waiting.

She and Cara were waiting with the ropes, ready to tie up Ralph-Rae. When he returned, they locked him in his dungeon and covered him with the “dragon medicine” which was full of salt (very bad for dragons).

When Ralph-Ray realised that he had been tricked he was furious, and beganyelling, screaming and swearing. Lord Forest told him that he really should do something about his temper.

Ralph-Ray yelled and screamed again as Deborah tipped out his entire stock of Sympathy medicine saying, “You won’t be requiring this anymore, Ralph-Rae”.

The four Dragon fighters took Lizzy to hospital where she recovered from her injuries. Cara and Deborah visited her each day and by talking with them, she realised that she had some changes to make; this time she put in a whole lot more effort at Jae School her family re-arranged the house so that each of the sisters could have a room to themselves, it was quite a lot of work, but was certainly nice to have her own space. As she was no longer silly, Elizabeth used her whole name.

Elizabeth was careful about the friends she made, realising with the help of her new friends, she didn't need people’s sympathy to be happy and playing tricks on people was not the way to make good friends. She set about to be a friend and she found that she now had many friends. She even worked on getting along better with Renée , who realised that there were things she was mad with Lizzy about that really were not her fault, and other things Lizzy agreed to work on, like not always trying to get her into trouble by whining and telling tattle-tales. Instead of trying to be rescued, she decided to help people who needed it. She used her imagination in more suitable ways, such as the school drama club, and telling stories to younger children in the lunch break and eventually she became a very skilful and compassionate dragon-fighter.

Sympathetic or pathetic was her new slogan.

Activities

1. Match the word with the meaning;

Livid tersely Provoke Comparatively Obscure

Annoy Angry Not well known abruptly fairly

3. All of the names of the Dragon-Fighter’s weapons tell something about that weapon and all are real names except one; Nasi-Ella... Nasi-Ella comes from the letters NaCl which are the short form of Sodium Chloride which is the scientific name for what dragon-fighting weapon. If you don’t know; google it.

4. We all have things we can be thankful for, but sometimes we forget. Take a few minutes to write a list of the things you are thankful for and have a fantastic day.

Sometimes older siblings (without realising they are doing it) hold it against younger children in the family when they feel rejected as the next baby is born, and receives more attention than themselves. It really is not the baby's fault, and many parents are careful to make sure that people play with the older children before they let them see the new baby to try to avoid this sibling rivalry. Is there something you are holding against someone that may not be their fault. Talk to someone you trust about the situation and maybe your relationship with the person you have difficulty with will improve too.

Joshua and Helena

You have enemies? Good.

That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life. Winston Churchill

Just a little bit further, Helena encouraged her horse, they were both tired but Helena was desperately keen to meet up with her cousin, she had not seen him in years and missed him terribly. In the month of her birth, baby Helena was given the usual gifts and a Sunny personality as her name means “Light”. Her parents, Beth and Samuel were thankful to The Fairies, inviting them to stay for supper and giving to them hugs and presents. Not long after the ceremony, her cousin was orphaned and came to live with her family- he'd been like a brother to her ever since. Helena had been concerned when Jacoba tried to marry him and her cousin went off to join the pirates to avoid her, because she just refused to take "no" as an answer.

Helena thought about for him every night, asking The Fairies to keep him safe, she nearly lost hope but last March, she received a letter from Leandros telling her that he was not a pirate anymore and he was working aboard the De Colores. She was thrilled reading about his adventures, fighting sea-serpents, rescuing beached whales, fighting all sorts of dragons and telling other pirates about promoting justice and living harmoniously; but most of all it thrilled her that he finally seemed happy. In fact he did not even seem to worry about the main reason he‟d left; avoiding Jacoba (you may or may not know that Jacoba had become more determined to marry him, when she finally realised marrying Jacques was impossible).

Leandros wrote as often as he could, and eventually Helena received the happiest news that he would be coming home soon and that his ship would be docking in Calais mid-September. He was attending the wedding of Jacques and Chérie and couldn‟t wait to see her.

Helena was thrilled and made plans to surprise her cousin by meeting him at the Marina in Calais two weeks before the wedding. She set out with Valorous (her chestnut flying-horse), a week ahead of her parents she rode fast for long hours and both she and Valorous were tired from traveling. Letting him walk a while rather than fly, her mind began to wander again as her fatigue and excitement took over; she didn't notice what looked like a log beside the road. Her horse got a fright, as he realised it was a nasty snake and bolted to get Helena and himself out of harm‟s way. In his haste, he hurt himself on a sharp rock. Valorous would be fine in a day or so, but though he could walk, Helena couldn't ride him and she was nowhere near the place she was to stay for the night. Not to be deterred, she set out on foot, walking beside her horse, looking for somewhere closer to sleep.

It was almost dark, and there were still no houses in sight when an old lady driving a donkey and wagon arrived beside her with the offer of ride. Helena knew that you should NEVER go with strangers, and there was something about the lady's eyes that reminded her of danger, so she refused, firmly but politely. Of course Helena was right to be sceptical about accepting help from a stranger, however, this lady was not a stranger – she was in fact Jacoba, who promptly turned her into a kitten and put her into a wooden box.

Helena spent two days as a kitten, she was relieved that Valorous escaped though Jacoba kept her boxed in for most of that time. She didn't want any dragon-fighters or a set of "nosey" parents rescuing Helena before she got to Calais. Now she had the perfect way to make Leandros marry her this time, that's if she failed to get Gabe to the altar.

Helena was stiff but too worked up to sleep, there was too much noise outside her box. Through a knot-hole in the box she could see a man she recognised as a Dragon-Fighter arguing with Jacoba in a language she did not understand. Jacoba was dressed in a beautiful green dress with long blonde hair „It must be a wig‟ thought Helena, „she looks a lot like Dominique, I cannot let her fool this man!‟ she decided.

Helena had been pretending to be asleep when Jacoba tried to feed her chicken-liver, even as a cat, she hated it. In Jacoba‟s haste to get ready for Gabe, the hero, she forgot to close the lid properly. Helena saw her chance for freedom and as she began climbing to the top of the box it tipped over. She was free!

Ouch! Jacoba gave her a sharp kick.

The language which Jacoba and the man were speaking was French, though Helena didn't understand it, but she could tell by the tones that he was not fooled for long.

Suddenly, the wig was off. Jacoba was a pig and Helena could speak, but Gabe didn't understand her. Picking her up, carefully so she wouldn't be hurt, he placed her in his coat and tied a rope around Jacoba-the-pig's neck after removing a golden key on a chain around her fat piggy neck, he walked her to the farm down the road and gave Jacoba-the-pig to the owner.

Helena was passed to a captain on her way from the farm, the man holding her seemed to know him, they started talking and the other man started to pat her. When Gabe had gone, Helena decided to test her vocal chords once again, this time trying Portuguese first.

The man was surprised but he didn’t drop her.

“How is it that you can speak?” he asked

Helena told him of being tricked by Jacoba Piggy, who is now the pig he just saw, then described in detail how she became a pig.

“How can you be a human again?”

“If a dragon-fighter hero gives me a kiss.”

“I‟m Joshua Glimmer-Sword; nephew of Hayden and Shaina of, Portugal at your service” he said with a bow, pulling out Nasi-Ella his dragon-fighting saber- a Fairy-gift; which had a handle of white gold, flecked to look like salt, that shone bright in the sunlight, “May I have the honour?” Whenever there was a dragon around to fight, Joshua’s sword would become warm in the hero’s hands and help the fighter to be alert and on guard, avoiding danger and getting a quick advantage over the dragon- which usually evolved back into an egg.

“Sim”

The captain lifted her paw and gave her a kiss and soon she was a lady again.

“Aubrigato Senor”

"Denatha; That's Ok. Do you like Chorizos?"

"Sim. Spanish or Portuguese?"

“Let's get both, with plenty of Avocado and Mayonnaise and then I‟m heading to Paris for a wedding, would you like to come as my date? Or can I drop you anywhere on the way?”

“Jacques and Chérie’s wedding?” she queried

“Sim”

“That is where I am heading too” she said with a grin.

As they were munching on Chorizos, Joshua told Helena of a frog he met who could speak French, Spanish, English and who learnt some basic Portuguese too.

But that was not the end for Jacoba Piggy either, for as soon as the farmer put her in the pig pen another pig came over to give her a kiss …

Activities

1. The other language that was spoken by Heléna and Joshua in this story is Portuguese, write down what you think the words mean and google it or get a Portuguese/English dictionary to see if you are correct.

2. Try some food from another country

3. Look up in a dictionary any colourful words you found and write their meanings in the margins of the story; use them in a sentence.

4. Unattainable, Sunny Disposition,

Carlos and Cariña

This story is a work in progress… you will notice a BlahBlah… that’s what I put in my stories when the words are not going out correctly on the page… eventually I come back to it.Love some input however… One day in the future, the stories will have hyperlinks so you can flick between stories and start where ever you like.

Those who are always complaining about their circumstances find that success continually eludes them. As do those who speak ill of others or who make excuses for their failures.

When The Fairies arrived in Valencia to bless Cariña, she of course received the usual beauty and grace from Ana and Belinda, but the wise fairy Kathléna gave to her the gift of a beautiful singing voice. Her Dragon-Fighter parents, Hayden and Shaina (very prominent Spanish dragon-fighters; responsible for the eradication of over 3000 dragons from their area) thanked the fairies, asking them to stay for dinner, and enjoy a concert in their honour performed by the children in the village. It was a collection of stories about how The Fairies have helped the Dragon-Fighters to win battles against their enemies. The Fairies were delighted with the performance and thanked all the people involved for the time, resources and effort they put in, encouraging them to keep fighting dragons using salt and sunlight but most of all, they added “treat everyone as you want to be treated, promote justice and live a harmonious life”.

From the time Cariña was a young girl, she enjoyed the great outdoors, and her parents took her hiking, canoeing, camping and abseiling (you may or may not know that is a way of safely jumping off rocks with ropes and harnesses). But she was also a gifted singer; whenever she would sing- sick people would become well, sad people would be cheerful and angry people would calm down.

One day as Cariña was walking in the gardens, Sir Dimik approached her asking for her hand in marriage. You may or may not know that Sir Dimmik is Jacoba‟s brother, he was no more a dragon-fighter than his sister was but his primary interest in Carina was her singing voice, he was sure she could make lots of money and become famous- and take him for a ride on easy street while she was at it. When our young heroine refused, Sir Dimmik threw her on the back of a blue dragon that flew her into a locked tower on a remote island. Cariña had never ridden a dragon before, and certainly did not want to repeat the experience, she held on tight till she was on firm ground.

Sir Dimmik believed that if he left her there long enough she‟d change her mind- or become dragons‟ dinner. If you read my letter at the beginning you would know that blue dragons make everyone around them sad, for reasons that the people themselves are not even sure of. When the person cries them-self into a little ball, the dragon eats his dinner.

Cariña was a dragon fighter and knew that there were 3 ways to get rid of a dragon, weapons such as daggers, swords and Bows with arrows but salt and sun-light were also effective. As a dragon-fighter, Carina had been trained to use daggers and Swords. With the blue dragon around, she began to feel sad, so she started singing, and felt her courage rise as she pulled out her dragon-fighting dagger; Judah-Adoração. It gleamed as it reflected the sun shining from the window. The dragon closed his eyes and clasped his paws over his ears screaming “I don‟t wanna hear that rubbish Aaah!” and flew out of the window, but not before Carina‟s dagger was thrust into his side and he began shrinking. Closing the window, Cariña kept singing, and dancing for joy as she saw his dragon's egg plop into the ocean, and sizzle in the salty water.

"Now to get out of here" she decided as she tied all of her curtains and sheets together, to make a rope ladder. Knotting them at the window they only reached half way down the tower. Looking out, she could see rocks and cold ocean water at the bottom. Deciding not to risk a jump that far, Cariña went back to the duchess, pulling out the chair she sat down, to work on another plan.

Cariña was so busy working; she did not see the De Colores, a ship, sailing past. Joshua, the first mate on the ship, noticed the sheets on the window of the tower and alerted Captain Carlos. Taking a closer look with his binoculars, he could see a girl inside the tower and decided to help.

Lowering a small boat into the water he and Joshua rowed to the rocks. Carlos rock-climbed to the window of the tower with spare abseiling gear hooked on him (dragon-fighters always come prepared) while Joshua waited on the rocks to ensure his safety.

Carlos was very surprised to find that the room appeared empty as he jumped in through the window. “That‟s funny,” he thought as a creepy feeling went up and down his spine and he began to wonder if he‟d seen a ghost as he looked around the small round room. He checked the cupboard and under the bed. When he looked behind the duchess, there was a lady hiding. She asked him cautiously if he was going to rob her.

He laughed when he realised what the problem was. He told her his name was Captain Carlos, of the De Colores and that he only dresses like a pirate to tell other sailors that there is a way to live honestly, harmoniously and enjoy life. He is quite good at it and has turned many a pirate from a life of crime, but that‟s not anything to do with this story.

Still not sure if she could trust him, our heroine said, “Then you would know my cousin, Joshua, can you take me to him?”

“Joshua Glimmer-Sword? He's the one who noticed you and is down waiting on the rocks to make sure we get back down safely and aboard the De Calores in one piece”. So they abseiled down the tower and Joshua secured the ropes. Cariña and Joshua had a joyous reunion and she showed appreciation to the captain for rescuing her, by thanking him warmly and giving him the traditional Xian blessing, if you have ever been greeted by a Latin person, it‟s pretty close to Xian7.

7 Warm hug, beautiful and genuine smile, certainly not one of these ridiculous cold and showy hugs that slip their way in as acceptable in “civilized Caucasian society” kiss on the cheek and BLAHblah.

Carlos decided to see her safely home when they docked in Spain, and he made Joshua the new captain of the De Colores. While visiting with Cariña‟s family he received the news that his grandfather, who had raised him, was ill and he needed to go home.

Cariña went with him, to sing to the Octogenarian and his family, Carlos‟ grandfather was old but he passed away happy and at peace, for not only was Cariña gifted with a beautiful voice, but she had consented to become the bride of Carlos, and help him to fight dragons on his families patch in England.

Bedtime stories

Dear Canela,

I am writing you the stories I once told you so you can read them while I am gone. I cannot tell you how exciting it is for me to be used while I am invisible on a real quest to fight dragons. Study hard, read these when you are down, sad, happy, mad and think of me.

As I have told you before, all Dragon-Fighter children are taught at home and school about dragons, gremlins and other nasties as they grow they learn to identify and fight them. Their parents tell them stories of Dragon-Fighters who have gone before them so that they may become wise and courageous.

In the early 1900s (ordinary time) a cockatrice was born- the experiment of a skilled, very unwise and selfish dragon-loving boy who had an unnatural desire for power, and was unusually close to the dragons. He laid a stolen chicken egg under his pet snake, who had just laid her own eggs, and it hatched a cockatrice. The cockatrice would obey one voice and that was his, and caused devastation across the ordinary world and La Paz. He hatched the egg hoping to use the monster to guard his cabbages from crows, which it did for a while, but then he used it for more nefarious purposes… stealing what he wanted from his neighbours and enemies. Little did he know that the cockatrice really obeys no flesh covered person, it merely enslaves them and causes destruction and havoc.

The man and his brother began with unleashing purple dragons on most areas of the world, then dragons in all colours. They took delight in seeing the ordinary men form sides each side blaming the people they feared most for destruction caused by the cockatrice, dragons and gremlins (who always travel with dragons). As the hatred grew the population and size of the enemy beasts grew.

Dragon-Fighters also grew in number and many worked hard to restore harmony and promote justice.

For many years the world paid the price, dragons roamed freely, hatching and growing at an alarming rate. Xionss fought long and hard to keep them at bay. The funny thing about a dragon crisis is that when they are numerous in size and number; it seems to awaken ordinary people, they see more clearly and though they may not understand what is happening at the time they fight alongside the Dragon-fighters. Ordinary people are not aware that neither can win their battle without the help of the other.

But before the victory is the time when all hope seems lost; the time most people accept defeat… it was at this time that a man had a plan, a tricky plan… but it just might work. This man was a weasel farmer, not by choice; he‟d tried farming sheep, carrots and the usual animals but the weasels found him. He knew that they were plucky little creatures, able to work themselves into the most amaising places, and he knew that they were the one creature that the cockatrice feared. He thought if he could get eleven Dragon-Fighters and one hundred and eleven weasels together, they could get close enough to the cockatrice to defeat it. Hunting the cockatrice took eleven months, eleven days and eleven hours and on the eleventh of November, at 11:00 the cockatrice disappeared in a puff of smoke. There was much rejoicing throughout the land. For the people, ordinary and Xions were free, on the Day of the weasels (Xions time) a wave of brave fury critters went speeding towards the cockatrice, the plucky little critters easily out-ran the beast. The Dragon-fighters who saw it described it as a weasel wave enveloping the beast, and in 11 minutes the beast was gone. With the cockatrice gone the “master” and his brother were easily defeated. The dragons went into hiding and the people in the ordinary world and La Paz celebrated.

Three hundred years ago, the lance was a popular dragon-fighting weapon, and no one had a better reputation with a Lance than Solomon Zerubbabel the Daring.

Zerubbabel siblings (Solomon and his sisters Kateleigh and Danika) planned to go camping and happened to pass by the Village of Schneider. From a distance, they noticed a thick fog covering the town and getting closer, seeing everyone sick, they realised they were dealing with a green dragon or three, perhaps four.

Moreover the closer they came to the city the more the heroes realised how much fun the gremlins were having too. For there is nothing a jade gremlin loves to do better than to hide a person‟s medicine or make them forget to take it. Jade gremlins will surround blue and green dragons, as illness and misery are closely related. Just like their cousins, they absolutely love to cause chaos wherever they can. Jade gremlins have even been known to put their fingers into people’s minds and make them think that the medicine is too revolting to take and they love to watch people spit it out and choke. Dragon-Fighter children firmly tell the gremlins to leave relax and think about something nice and the medicine usually goes down fine. Then the Xions parents give them a hug afterwards telling them that they are special and brave and good.

Solomon was excited that he had the chance to lance a real dragon, targeting the biggest one; he, Danika and Kateleigh rode their horses at the dragon from all sides, allowing Solomon the leverage he needed, it was hard work, but eventually the dragon left taking a lot of fog with him.

Danika and Kateleigh were busy with the salt tipped bows, which left the smaller dragons shrinking as they flew away, taking the disease and rest of the fog with them.

The siblings helped the village to recover, which was a much easier job now the dragons had gone, though some were still weak, the people were feeling much better. The towns-folk offered them a place to rest and gave them yummy food. The people in village of Schneider felt so much better by that evening that they had a huge party with plenty of salty foods, singing and dancing. By the time the party was over everyone was well again and not even a bit tired anymore.

As the Ehud siblings Zackhya, Braeson and Mikinley were travelling home for Christmas. They were tired as they drew close to the town of Seven, and the hope of rest disappeared as they could see the Yellow dragons more clearly. Hundreds of yellow gremlins were drunk with vicious delight… The town of Seven was in Chaos, the people were so greedy.

They were taking each other‟s money, food and belongings; people would put their money in a “safe place” but if they had a gremlin on their back, they forgot where the “safe place” was and would fight with their family and neighbours as the gremlins whispered in their ears that someone must have stolen it.

Some people were lying down because they couldn't walk as they had eaten so much food. Those people had gremlins sitting on their shoulders convincing them they were still hungry, by the time they realised they weren’t hungry they anymore, they were too full to move.

When people were buying things they would pay with mixed real and fake money and the sellers were putting fewer things in than they were charging for. People had special pockets sewn into their clothes so that they could hear their money jingle as they walked.

Nobody trusted anyone very much and most preferred to stay home and count their money then spend time with friends (who might just be friendly so they can take my money, the gremlins whispered). Some people even did terrible things to others just for a bit more money.

It was hard work to get rid of the dragons, Zachyha distracted the people, by throwing money for them to catch as Mikinley and Braeson fought off the dragons. The people had been getting in the way at first, as they thought that they owned dragons, what they didn't know was that eating so much food and wearing your money makes it harder to run away when the dragons decide to eat you. The dragons were happy to let the people think they owned them, because that just kept the food they liked eating that much closer.

When the dragons were gone and the fog was lifted, the people of Seven were very sorry for their greedy behaviour. They shared their food and money with others, even people they had not met. They felt compassion for orphans and widdows the Dragon-fighters told them of and sent workers to help and protect them. Children who no longer had any parents were venerable in many ways but when our new sharing community became involved; more caring and contented children in any place other than Seven were rare.

The dragon-fighters were proud of the progress the people of Seven had made, and told them to keep being generous. They stayed in the town of Seven for several years, teaching them to fight dragons.

Another story:

Amelia and Cohen, members of the Zerubbabel family (distant cousins of cousins to the boys you met before), were heading off to meet family for Easter one year and on their journey they found that the town of Tranquil was not very peaceful with Purple dragons flying about and purple gremlins making trouble.

The gremlins stuck their icy fingers around the people‟s hearts, making them frustrated with others over the most trivial things, eye-colour, hair-style “You looked at me the wrong way” they screamed. They provoked and retaliated, hurled abuse, threw things, yelled, destroyed property and continued swearing, kicking and hurting each other. In fact some people were very hurt but they could not get to hospital as the ambulance drivers, doctors and nurses were too annoyed to work.

Several times the dragon-fighters had to duck to avoid objects being hurled. Amelia (an ancestor of Gabe) found Zavier, her shield handy for dodging junk as well as dragon fire. Cohen was disappointed that he couldn't use his lance and dodge the junk at the same time, so the small team fended off the fends using many arrows dipped in salt. They had to be careful taking aim as they only wanted to hit dragons, not the citizens of Tranquil.

With the departure of each dragon, the people in the village, seemed to calm a little bit more, and peace was restored to Tranquil when the fog had lifted and the last purple dragon was gone. The Zerbbabels began helping them to restore some order to the town, so everyone could get a decent rest that night.

The dragon-fighters stayed in town for a many years to help their new friends to re-build their lives and town. When the work was done, the town was a Dragon-Fighter fortress; our duo said “Good-bye” and promised to visit again when they had helped some more dragons to bite the dust.

They reminded the people of Tranquil of the ways to fight dragons and encouraged them to love and show kindness to each other. “We believe in you,” they said "Remember to tell 3 people each day that you love them and 2 things you like about them. Also try to do 3 kind things for other people every day and keep a journal of who you helped so you don't forget".

I believe in you too Canela

Cheers

Beau

Post Script: I will try to write to you, while I am gone.

This story dedicated to Eddie and young people who have tragically lost their lives due to choices people have made under the influence of alcohol or drugs

and to the people who miss them.

Canela was overjoyed to receive mail from her invisible friend, while he was away fighting dragons; she put this letter in her journal along with the other.

Dear Canela

We arrived in safely in Seven I couldn’t help thinking of the Dragon-Fighters who had been here before me 300 years ago, fighting dragons. We had a few minor tussles with

dragons and gremlins on the journey but nothing prepared me for what I saw as we approached the city. About 20km away it was obvious that the city was covered in fog (of course you remember that dragons are afraid of sunlight and prefer to cover the town in fog to party) there was such a sight to be seen, people were sleeping on the roads, telling each other how comfortable their beds were, eating rubbish from the tip saying how yummy the food was, giving their dogs hay to eat and horses meat to eat, trying to fly off their rooves with a feather on each hand saying "Tweet tweet".

I knew what makes people behave so crazy but Michael said it first

"Light-Brown dragons"

"Let‟s get them" this is the first time I have ever been in a group situation when we all said the same thing at the same time, we laughed and got on with the job.

Armed with bows, arrows, swords and salt we tracked the dragons down one by one.

Forest had to do some fast talking, at one stage a man had a small dragon that he was patting, saying "nice kitty"

Cara said "Oooh what's his name?" pretending to go over and pat it as he sprinkled salt on the animal, there was a huge scream first from the dragon and second form the frightened man who dropped the dragon like a hot potato. There was a puff of smoke and it turned into an egg. Cara’s pretty good at calming people down, and I was impressed that this time was no different.

As we were putting the egg onto a buggy to bury it out of town, another dragon flew over and made off with the egg, earning an arrow in its side it flew away shrinking and shrieking, but landed far enough from Seven to be not much of a problem.

Oh and then there was this lady who had a snake that she was trying to use as a rope to tie some things together with. It was no use reasoning with her, I thought and quickly got him with my sword. Deborah offered her the use of her sash as a replacement rope as I disposed of her “friend”.

The more we worked, the thinner the fog became. It seemed to take forever but finally there was too much sunlight for the dragons to be happy and they flew away in terror.

The fog cleared and the people wondered what they were doing at the dump, on the roof and laying on the road. When we told them about the brown dragons, they were sceptical at first but Aiden, the mayor, thanked profusely the dragon-fighters he could see and offered the us a place to stay for the night (yes a real bed in a house) and food (not from the dump) for the journey.

Where does an invisible man who does not want to frighten people sleep? With the horses, actually the hey was quite comfortable. The Xionss slipped out to bring me food, while they “checked on the horses”, so I had company and food too. I have never before experienced how great it feels to do something for someone, see them happy and blissfully unaware that they should thank me. It‟s actually a good feeling and I had to tell someone.

Post Script: Many people in the town of Seven could not remember the crazy things that they had been doing yesterday and the days before, when the dragons and gremlins were partying there were some strange haircuts, bruises, "How did I lose my... Where did that... come from?" I wish you could have seen it. It’s so hard not to laugh when you are in the moment because being invisible I would confuse people.

We reminded the people of Seven that the best way to prevent a dragon attack again was to use salt and light but we also gave them some training in using daggers and swords and helped the people repairing the damage from the dragon attack. I think the mayor’s brother, Tyrone is definitely a future Dragon-fighter and I am sure the team is working on getting him to come to college next year.

Activities

1. Light brown dragons like to make the people around them do very silly things, can you think of some more silly things that they may make people do.

2. Tranquil, Seven and Schneider are not real towns in Europe. Seven of course is a number that is one of my favourites. Google the other words and find out what they mean.

Conceited Viscount Beau

Beau is fire, Canela is water

For Mike, the lawyer and countless brave men and women

Like him who use their talent to fight for children in Manilla,

Asia, Africa, Latin America and the World…

Because children deserve to live in a world where the

Worst person they can think of is in fiction.

Beau was not a bad man. He had lovely parents, Inara and Asaph, who were pleasantly surprised to be blessed with a child after waiting for many years. He was their delight and joy they taught him right from wrong and how to fight dragons. However, because he did not have any brothers or sisters that he needed to share with, his one fault was that he was given a bit too much of his own way.

Beau knew he was destined for greatness, he believed it his whole life and dreamed of becoming a Viscount, he was a natural leader, head of the debate team at school, he always had a bunch of guys and girls following him around, giving him their lunch, asking him to sort out quarrels, and offering to do his homework. They always thought what he said was profound and due to all the attention he received from everyone, he grew up thinking he was more handsome, wise and clever than he actually was.

From a young age, Beau had been trained in the arts of Dragon-Fighting, when he turned 12 he was given a Fairy-gift; Alynta-Celeste, a sword which had flames of 3 different golds etched into the handle fire that seemed to dance in the sunlight. He had never used a sword that felt better in his hands. He had used it to chase off several small dragons from his area and was generally considered a hero in his school. LINK

The problem with this is that the dragons really don't care about what other people think of a person, they know that they all taste good. Beau had worked hard at becoming a good dragon fighter, but there was still more than a hint of superciliousness about him. When he met Claudine, who was pretending to be a princess, he could not imagine marrying a common lady, a lady without a tile- a mere Miss Suchandsuch, would never do.

He dreamed of fighting dragons and rescuing people and having them enthusiastically thank him... He dreamed of the glory.

When he turned 21, Beau didn't think he would have much trouble finding a countess or perhaps someone more important to marry him in one month, then again, he didn't think he'd be invisible either – Even to this day, he is not sure why he agreed to have dinner with Claudine. Perhaps he was dazzled by her superficial beauty - but he sure regretted it now.

***

You may or may not know that while Beau had expressed his determination to never marry a common lady an equally determined young lady turned him invisible when he refused to marry her. Beau was depressed. He had been home looking for a “suitable” dragon-fighter who would love him and found that some of his female school friends had married other “important” dragon-fighters. One thing you may need to know about Beau's hometown is that the girls are most often named names that sound like one or two letters in the alphabet; it's more than a little strange even to the people in La Paz. Now back to his friends... LE, and KD could not hear him or see him, then there were the ones like Bea and Kaye; who screamed and thought they had heard a ghost.

Beau thought he had almost convinced Elle and Dee, but in the end they didn't want to help him because they were secretly scared that Claudine had also made him ugly; they were not interested in marrying anyone who was plain.

KC and LX, if he had started with them, he may have had a shot, but they worried that he would never be visible again and they wanted a husband with whom they could show off to their friends, it would NEVER do if they could not see him. Beau was also secretly beginning to share their fear, as he approached JC and KT, the rejection for the first time in his life removing the words his mind was telling him to say from his mouth, he made such a bumbling mess of it that the girls were more than half convinced it was a trick so they replied that they had so many boys around them that neither of them had time for an invisible husband.

These thoughts were weighing heavily upon his mind and he didn’t notice at first that he had unwelcome-scaly company, hiding behind the trees in the forest.

What he did notice was a young lady who was yelling and slinging tennis balls at a falcon, which flew away directly. She then stooped to give whatever she was protecting a hug. When she picked it up he saw that it was a lamb. The lamb looked so happy to be snuggled safe in her arms. She had beautiful brown hair and creamy coco skin

WHACK

Bleating from the kid that ran into him

“Ouch!” cried Beau as he fell to the ground with a thump.

“Who said that?” questioned Canela

„She can hear me‟ he thought…

“Don’t be afraid, I am a person who has been made invisible by a horrid woman that I refused to marry. My name is Beau and I am from Manilla, I have travelled a long way with my pony, Rapido to find a lady dragon-fighter rescue her from a dragon and marry her, “he said talking fast “Well actually I am picky; and now I am invisible too, TRULY I didn‟t mean to startle you”. He said as he was fumbling in his pocket for a picture of his family to show her.

There is something different about your horse, she thought. Canela was on the tip of asking about it and jumped with fright, forgetting her thoughts as he said excitedly-

“Found it! This is me with my parents” he said holding out the photo to her, aware in the back of his mind how odd it must seem to the girl that the photo was floating in mid-air.

Canela picked up the photo to examine it more closely “This is the strangest thing I have ever heard,” she said to herself but remembering her manners she asked “Are you hungry? I have just made chicken and lentil dumpling stew, for my Dad and I. One more at the table won‟t hurt”. She said thinking that perhaps she was dreaming.

It wasn‟t a huge juicy Lamb chop covered with his favourite vegies and mushroom sauce but Beau was so hungry anything sounded delicious.

***

Later that evening, while everyone was eating the stew, Arthur, Canela‟s father asked him what he usually eats for dinner in the mansion he‟d talked about earlier. Beau made the mistake of enthusiastically telling him in front of Canela, that his favourite foods were lamb chops, goat’s cheese and curried goat with rice.

I won‟t bore you with the details of the argument that followed, however it is important that you know 2 things; firstly Canela is generally a “go with the flow person” but making her angry is like being swept into rapids and finding a hole in your canoe. You had better hold on and secondly, Beau enjoys conflict- it makes life interesting and he made Canela so angry (at the thought of someone eating her pets) that she started to say… “I wish I could see you so that I could give you a AHHH!…” she would later regret what she was going to say, it was not at all pleasant, what startled her was that he became visible for 5 seconds.

Canela was still in a state of mild shock when the food was eaten. Seriously, can you blame her? It was all a lot to take in. Beau further surprised her by picking up the dishes and beginning to wash up. His method was different to hers, she thought vaguely but the dishes were sparkling clean. As he worked Beau tried to relieve the tension as best as an invisible person can, by chatting away; he told Canela that even the royal citizens La Paz help with cleaning the kitchen after the evening meal. My parents in particular would say “There are some jobs that you need to know how to do for yourself, and washing up is one of them,” quoted Beau

“Living in a mansion, don‟t‟ you have servants?” puzzled Canela

“Sure we do, but they have families too, they go home as soon as the meal is cooked. They eat what we eat, and it‟s only fair that they have it nice and hot too” replied Beau with a smile that showed in his voice, Canela began to feel herself relax.

“The Fairies are always telling us how important family time is, and that we should promote it as much in our domain as we can, but we must first set the example for people to follow; it’s basic good manners really. But it’s so nice to catch up and chat as we work, and it keeps away insects and vermin” he continued as he picked up the broom and began to sweep the floor.

“I wish my Dad would help me wash up some nights, I get so tired and bored from all the house work” sighed Canela

“yeah, I hear you, I thought I would go crazy some nights when both my parents were sick at the same time and could not help, I‟m glad I didn’t have to do that day in day out though” Beau understood

„It was bizarre,‟ Canela thought, to see the dishes looking like they were washing themselves, and then the broom sweeping by itself but it was also lovely to chat to someone as she did the repetitive work. „Washing up by oneself could so be boring at times‟, she believed.

That night they had a long talk, Beau showed Canela his dragon-fighting sabre and told her tales of well-known Dragon-Fighters, whose stories were told from generation to generation of Xions children. Canela especially loved to hear of Braeson and Mikinley who were very wise and Zackhya the Brave, bedtime stories she was told as a child would never again have quite the same appeal to her as the ones she‟d heard that night.

Canela was so impressed with his stories; she asked him how he became a Dragon-Fighter. Beau replied “Oh I did that last year, I asked the Fairies to visit, promised to love justice and promote harmony, then Kathlena put her thumb on the skin above my heart and left her golden thumb-print there; she told me that a tiny drop of Fairy blood soaks through your skin, and joins your blood. Once you are in the Xions family, Dragon-fighting becomes much more a natural part of life. You see things for what they really are and you are strengthened for the fight. Ana then touched her thumb to my horse Rapido, and he grew wings, she told me that with a drop of Fairy blood, Miniature horses become unicorns while mules and donkeys become Hippogriffs, zorses and zebras can also become pegasus too”.

“So that‟s why your horse looked different, I didn‟t notice wings though,”

“Most ordinary people don‟t notice,” it‟s a Fairy thing, maybe there is a Dragon-Fighter in you waiting to come out he thought.

Canela was excited to hear about the new animals, and found herself telling Beau things she had not told anyone else, she wondered if she would ever be brave enough to fight dragons and became overwhelmed with sadness; thinking of all the mistreated animals in the world and wanting to rescue them always made her cry. Canela admitted that sometimes she feels so sad she cannot do anything but cry.

***

Beau was a dragon-fighter-in-training and knew quite a lot about dragons. After a difficult night sleeping, he was suspicious enough to get up early the next day and check out the forest by the house. When he found that his notion was correct; a blue dragon was living in the forest nearby, he decided to show Canela the evidence of her nasty neighbour and help her to remove him „No wonder Canela was so depressed at times‟, he thought. It was not easy for Canela to see the dragon at first, but she was good with a sling-shot and Beau directed her. Canela felt an exhilaration that that surpassed anything she had dreamed of when the job was done. It was like a heavy backpack she did not realise she was carrying was taken off her back. She doubted if she would feel any guilt as Beau assured her that they are not like the animals she loves but the enemy.

Beau spent the next few days teaching Canela to hunt dragons. Salt rocks are cumbersome to carry and Canela showed aptitude for Dragon-fighting so Beau fixed her Dad‟s spare archery set and made some more salt tipped arrows. He set about teaching Canela how to get the bullseye in a range of situations, but he was nowhere near as good with a bow as with a sword. Canela was a natural, he‟d seen this before but even Beau was surprised by how quickly she leant, and asked her if she would like to come to Salvatore College (you may know is a school for dragon-fighters, all over the world) with him this term. He told her that some of the best archers in the Dragon-Fighter world were there and could help her develop her skills.

“Let me talk it over with my dad,” Canela responded. She was surprised and excited by the offer but worried that her dad may not agree. In the end she cooked him his favourite meal and dessert just the way he liked it, before she politely and assertively made her request. Arthur said it was ok for her to go to college, but she must take Mikey as he was able to look after the kids and the lamb, but an elephant is just TOO much work for an “old” man, he decided.

Beau gave Canela space to spend some time with her dad before they had to say goodbye, as he knew they would not see each other in a while. Canela asked the Fairies to make her a Dragon-Fighter and while they were visiting, Beau asked them if they could make him visible again. The Fairies told him that he had things to learn and jobs to do that could not be done visible, but they promised him that they would be with him every step of the way.

Three days later, the young Xionss set off for Matteo and Bella‟s place, riding Mikey and Rapido, Beau’s flying horse (who walked and had his wings tucked away to appear as a regular horse to ordinary people). Though they could not see the wings, there was no mistaking that there was something superior about Rapido; a sort of horsey wisdom and confidence which of course ordinary people shrugged off as coincidental.

Beau knew it would be a tough job convincing Bella and Matteo of his invisibility, but easier than he anticipated. Knowing that they were smart and kind he gave Canela a letter of introduction. Having an invisible guest was a shock for them at first but Xionss never complain, they make the best of what they are given and open their minds to what they can learn from the experience.

You may or may not know that Matto and Bella allow a few college students to stay in the home while attending college each year, and this time it was their turn. Canela was set up in the girl’s guest bedroom which was on the top floor of the large but cosy home and Beau set himself up in the basement, to be out of the way. Given the reaction of people in his home town, our hero was still not sure who he could tell “Guess what I am invisible” to and Canela didn’t know ANYBODY in town so it seemed natural at first to them to spend most of their spare time together or with Matteo and Bella.

Sometimes, they needed space from each other… Canela and Beau hadn‟t finished unpacking before they had their first fight. In fact when Bella was coming to the stables to check that each of them had enough food for Mikey and Rápido, she walked in on…

“Bossy-Boots”

“Space-cadet”

“Moron toad-face”

And a frightened elephant and a rather troubled flying pony, Rapido had helped to fight dragons, so he was not scared by a little human fight… but he didn’t enjoy unnecessary tension either.

Bella, who had been given the gift of wisdom by the wise fairy Kathléna, told them that Dragon Fighters never call people names when they are angry; they negotiate rationally. Canela and Beau saw the wisdom in what she said when they had calmed down, Bella gave them some tips for not turning future disagreements nasty and each person having their feelings considered.

Beau knew that Canela needed some things for Salvatore College and he was sorry for provoking her earlier that day. He asked Bella to help him buy some pretty dresses for Canela to make peace with her. Canela was so happy with her new clothes she danced around her room in them.

Beau could not go to school while he was invisible so he worked with Matteo and sometimes Bella on assignments in their area of Italy. Being invisible helped him to catch people who were being sneaky, deceptive and nasty. Being invisible also helped him to spot dragons that were trying to creep into the neighbourhood.

The dragons thought that Bella and Matteo were “alarming” at the best of times, they seemed to need less sleep than most people and were alert and accurate with bows and swords. Now they seemed to have some new sort of “Fairy-magic” and they hoped it did not spread.

Beau became a much improved letter writer, not that he was ever unable to write letters in the past he just preferred not to. He also found enjoyment on pranking some bullies at a local primary school when Canela socialised with her college friends, sometimes he’d check that she was ok. But he has to be quiet about it as it annoys the lady.

In the evening he would help Canela with her homework. Sometimes when she was around, Beau would become visible for a few seconds and then disappear again. But it never seemed to happen in other people’s company.

Canela wanted her friend to have the chance to be visible again, so she brought a few friends home from college to meet him. Using only his voice to communicate could be tedious and tiresome, but mostly he appreciated the effort she went to. He didn’t admit it but he missed having lots of friends around him.

Cara and Forest came to visit for Bella‟s birthday and were so excited to meet an invisible Dragon-fighter; they told Michael about it, who promptly invited our unseen hero on a quest. When Beau was half-way sure that Canela would be ok, he wrote her some letters to read while he was away, promised to write and set off with the group. (Turn to page # to read his letters)

When he arrived home, Beau presented Canela with a bunch of pink lilies that he‟d found along the way. He‟d remembered hearing her once tell Bella that they were her favourites she was so happy he stayed visible for 50 minutes.

“I’ve never received flowers before” she said excitedly, she paused to breathe in their beautiful cinnamon aroma, “It’s so nice to have you home” finally remembering her manners, she thanked him with a hug.

Hugs were rare for Beau these days, and he very much enjoyed it. He began to wonder if Canela was the Dragon-fighter for him when it happened again as he brought her an iced chai latte which he‟d made for her while she was studying. He didn't know why, but at times Canela's enthusiasm for rescuing endangered animals made him excited too. They spent many hours discussing how fighting dragons could work together with rescuing elephants, monkeys and other animals Canela loved. Many times when they were washing up together, he would listen to her ideas about saving animals Beau became visible for longer and longer; however, he always disappeared when the conversation was over.

Beau noticed that Canela‟s smile was not quite as bright as it once was; certain that she was probably missing her Dad, Beau taught Canela to fly on Rapido and let her borrow his horse for the Easter break. She came back so happy and refreshed that it almost made up for the boredom he‟s suffered in her absence. Fortunately for him, his parents dropped by towards the end of the break. He‟d somehow managed to finally tell them in a letter about his condition; he had been concerned that they would worry.

His Mum noticed (though she politely did not mention it) that he talked a lot about Canela. She did gush though that he somehow he seemed taller when she hugged him. Asaph noted to his wife that their son had become so much wiser, and both parents were so proud. They thanked The Fairies once again for blessing them with Beau and trusted that one day they would see his face again.

Asaph and Inara stayed in town a week longer; enough to meet Canela and become friends with her too, not just because she made their son happy. Canela found that she liked Beau‟s parents very much. Inara was a petite lady but what she lacked in physical stature she made up for in inner strength and character. Canela thought she gave the best hugs of anyone alive. Asaph was a genial man with a huge warm smile. He worked hard to make people feel comfortable around him, and was certainly thoughtful and gifted in hospitality.

Beau stayed visible for ½ day when Canela passed her exams for first year, and decided to take advantage of it. Now was his chance, bringing her flowers, he was surprised at how nervous he was, and stumbled over the words more than he was comfortable remembering, but when he finally asked her to marry him, Canela told him that she would have to think about it. Two days later, he became visible again, for 10 hours when she told him “yes”.

Canela had a lot to consider, in those days of pondering.

1. She liked his parents, but was not sure that Beau could stay visible once they got married, and how could she explain having an invisible husband. Having an invisible friend had issues enough. Sometimes when they went out, she would forget when others were around and start talking to Beau, and people would laugh at her thinking she was talking to herself.

2. There were also the boys from the pet food shop who paid her a lot of attention and she could actually SEE them… Even though sometimes it seemed that they might be more interested in making trouble than rescuing animals, like they claimed..

It was a tough decision, but in the end, she decided to take a chance, and every day for the rest of her life, she was glad she‟d listened with her heart and made the decision to marry Beau, although it seemed crazy at the time.

Beau, was not perfect, Canela knew that… She remembered the day that he decided to check out his competition, at the pet food store. Pretending to be a magic talking turtle, Beau convinced two of Canela‟s admirers that the most beautiful girls in the world, were back in Manilla. He even gave them a map and some money to get there. To give him credit, Beau had worked out, sooner than Canela did, that they were not as interested in the things Canela was passionate about as they pretended to be. It made him angry that they were deceiving her, she remembered with regret some of the venomous things she had said to her in her fury. Eventually she saw his wisdom and a little while after that she admitted it.

That evening, when Bella, discovered what Beau did, she told him, “I know you were meaning to be nice, but you have to let Canela make her own decisions, and see for herself that the boys are deceitful”.

Taking Bella’s words to heart, Beau, worked on ways that he could be a better friend to Canela, and he spent a lot more time fighting dragons in the kingdom and less time worrying about whether he would be visible again. He liked that he was becoming a better person; he loved to help people… even when they did not know he‟d helped.

The dragons got sick of getting squashed by invisible dragon-fighters and went off to annoy other towns for a while.

Canela and Beau married on the Summer Break from Salvatore College and attended the next year of college together. As soon as Canela said “I Do”, and kissed him; Beau was visible and is visible to this day.

When they graduated, Beau and Canela travelled around the world, fighting dragons and rescuing animals. Canela found that the more dragons she fights the fewer animals there are to rescue as; when the dragons leave, the people stop being cruel to the animals and start caring for them. They love to work as a team.

Beau and Canela still argue every now and then, and they still like to be competitive with the washing up- seeing who can get the dishes the cleanest with the least time and water.

Behind the Stories

My fairyland is a tribute to the real dragon-fighters in the world today, the people who risk their lives for social justice.

Destiny Rescue, A21, and countless other organisation workers who everyday work towards releasing men children and women from slavery. You are the real dragon- fighters. People who raise awareness… you help.

Women teaching women about women’s health and providing essential hygiene items to the people who need it most and can least afford it. You are dragon-fighters. People who raise funds and use their talents to make make the supplies that they give out… You help them help others.

I dream of a world where people want to help others. A world where we realise we cannot do everything but we need to do something.

If my imagination can inspire even one person to make a difference somewhere and fight for social justice, it’s worth it.

I am afraid of boring you with waffle… I would also like this page to be a place where you can come and write a paragraph or more in the loopholes. If you read it and say… I know exactly what happened in this part here… pls comment or email me your pieces. It’s like shareware for stories here.

Here’s a story I wrote years ago, when it seemed I would never be married, It literally a vent… I had given up reading fiction for lent, was bored out of my brains at sleep time and the characters “told me their story”… I read it to my husband (then boyfriend) last year, and it was so surprising how similar this story was to ours.

It was like we had been fighting the same dragons from different angles.and had similar frustrations… I even mentioned Beau and Canella at our wedding at the reception and they were in vows.

To be completely honest, I almost destroyed these stories due to the lack of feed back and general cynicism from a particular family member. She could not help just giving me that little needle after the wedding… “Oh thank Goodness you didn’t blather on too much at the wedding with your fairy stories”… I sucked it up and here they are…

Oh one more thing I really wanted to mention was that I dream of making it so that the stories will have your children’s names in them. Their friends and cousins can be included fairly easily with the right programming. I wanted my niece and nephew to feel closer to their cousins and the kids that call me aunty Jude so their names have been put in the stories, but eventually it will be your kids in there.

The Frog Prince Retold

Jacques and Chérie
Cooper and Jacinta were two very well-known Xionss; they loved Justice and Harmony and were devoted to The Fairies Ana, Belinda and Kathléna, wise and caring rulers of La Paz4. La Paz Fairies could be in any number of places at a time and were always nearby if you looked carefully enough or called for them. At this very moment, we find them in the Northern part of France where the adventures of two young heroes, Jacques and Dominique5- begins with gifts given to them at their Consecration ceremony.

Just 3 days old, Dragon-fighters are consecrated to The Fairies between the 3rd and 7th days of their life. People can be born into Dragon-Fighting families or join-up later but eventually, each individual needs to make the decision to be a Dragon-Fighter for themselves. Typically at a Consecration ceremony; Kathléna reminds the guests that becoming a Xions is a personal choice and no one can make it for you. She thanks and encourages the Dragon-fighters who consecrated their children, and committed to teaching them to love justice and harmony along with the art of Dragon-Fighting in the hopes that they will one day be better Dragon-Fighters than themselves.
When a Dragon-Fighter makes a vow to The Fairies to love justice, promote harmony and fight dragons- if their heart is sincere The Fairies accept them as a citizen of La Paz, give them a royal title and a job to fulfil. When the Fairies grant gifts Kathléna always gives each child a unique ability, while Ana and Belinda give to all the girls beauty and grace and to each Boy handsomeness and charm.
The wise Fairy Kathléna looked down at the sleeping twins and said softly “Prince Jacques, I give you Discernment, may you tell good from mischief; right from wrong and
walk in the path of Harmony and Justice your whole life long” and turning to the sleeping baby girl, she said softly, “Princess Dominique; I give you A soft heart, may you bring sincerity to the proud, peace to the angry and joy to the disheartened”.
Cooper and Jacinta were greatly respected in their area of influence; they owned a successful business, were accomplished sportsmen and finally people respected them because they lived their lives promoting harmony and justice. In fact they restored peace to the community once they frightened off some very tough dragons from the area. After the festivities, our Dragon-fighters thanked The Fairies, gave them presents and requested their advice on a few pressing matters involving their area of France. When The Fairies needed to go, they hugged them goodbye, and wished them a safe journey.
As children, Jacques and Dominique were inseparable. They loved helping in the family Business- Jaybirds Barrels, working on carriages with their uncles Thane and Denver, caring for the family horses with Uncle Daniel but the thing they loved most was racing in the local Barrel/Buggy races… Basiclly, the person who has the most barrels left in their wagon while racing around the obstacle course in the fastest time… WINS and is crowned King or Queen of the event. There is always a driver and an archer in the cart at any one time, the archer shoots mechanical dragons that try to tip over the cart as the driver manoeuvres the horse and buggy. You might be surprised to know that Jacinta, had been Queen 12 years running and taught the twins everything they needed to know about racing, and Cooper was the Archery ace who also sewed the uniforms that Jacinta designed each year.
As teenagers things changed, Dominique had become friends with Jacoba. Jacques could never quite decide why, but he just didn‟t trust that sneak. Perhaps it was the fake way she smiled around him and seemed to be nasty to anyone who competed with her (even if they unaware of the competition), then there was all the tantrums she used to throw when she wanted something or someone to do what she wanted. He expressed his concern to his mother, Jacinta, who told him about his gift from The wise Fairies and advised him to trust himself and be careful.

Jacques had a very good reason to be distrustful of Jacoba, who was only friends with Dominique because she wanted to marry a Dragon-fighter; or more specifically, Jacques. You may, like me, find her behaviour ridiculously strange, as she did not actually believe in dragons. So why did she insist on marrying a man committed to fighting them? Because she thought he was the most handsome man in Western Europe. Alas, the more she tried to influence Jacques, with her posing and vanity, the less he was impressed. In fact he deliberately went out of his way to not be around her, spending much more time with his friends sparing and honing his archery skills.
Dominique realised eventually that Jacoba was not a good friend for her to have. She was sick of getting into trouble for things that she and Jacoba did and always having Jacoba shift the blame entirely onto her. Dominique began to feel guilty for the nasty way she treated people just to feel accepted by Jacoba. Her mother helped her to set some healthy boundaries which annoyed Jacoba so much that she found some other “friends” to boss around. Dominique made new friends, who were not so manipulative and everyone in the region breathed a sigh of relief.
When Dragon-fighters turn a certain age and level of maturity, it is their mission to find a Xions woman who is his peer, rescue her and get married. So when he reached the age of 21 and seven months, Jacques said goodbye to his parents and Dominique and set off early the next morning on Proteus, his creamy winged-horse, to rescue Cariña of, Spain who was said to be trapped in a tower and guarded by a terrible dragon; the journey was quite uneventful. When he reached the tower, he thought it strange that it was so easy to pass the dragon that was sleeping by the gate. When he reached the lady in the tower, he was overwhelmed by the smell of coffee, but he recovered quickly with the words, “You are Cariña? Someone who loves Justice and Harmony and is a citizen of La Paz"
Oui” said the lady who had beautiful silky ebony coloured hair and glowing mocha skin. But there was something about her smile that was not quite right, it seemed to be unkind. "That's odd, she should have said “Sí,”‟ thought the hero to himself, and he decided to test her. In Spanish he said “Are you sure you are the ugly Dragon-Fighter Cariña?”
Sí,” held the woman with a big nervous smile, Jacques supposed it was intended to calm his suspicions, but it only made them worse.
You are as beautiful as toad‟s warts,” he said, coming over to play with her hair.
Gracias” she replied. Jacques pulled the hair, and the wig came off.
Jacoba! I will never marry you!” he cried.
Jacoba revealed from her disguise, glared at Jacques. Her features twisted into a look of scorn and rage. She cackled evilly, “He eh he he hi! I‟ll turn you into a frog!” she replied. As soon as she said “frog”, she gave a wave of her magic wand and our hero started shrinking and turning brown.
The only way you will turn back into a Dragon-fighter again, is if a woman kisses you... Before another frog does, that is, and beware you have exactly 13 months to marry her or Croak croak croak.” She cackled again. “If I can‟t have you than no one shall!” she screamed as she disappeared in a puff of dust.
Jacques hopped- with some difficulty, onto his flying horse; he was thankful that Asaph was obedient, smarter than a regular horse and patient as he began the long hunt for the woman who would free him from his amphibious prison. All around Europe, Asia and the Middle East, he went looking for a Dragon-fighter to kiss him. From a frog‟s perspective it was difficult to tell his Dragon-fighter peers from a regular woman… But each time he got anywhere near a lady, the reaction was the same... She would scream and run away, and pretty ones were the worst.
One month before his twenty-second birthday Jacques began to get very homesick, he decided to go back to his chateau in Paris. He thought of how much he would like to see his sister on their birthday and it crossed his mind that "Perhaps Dominique could persuade one of her friends to give him a kiss".
It was his birthday when Jacques hopped through the gates of the place he called home; he was surprised at how big his place looked. In his excitement he forgot to be discreet and was jerked out of his visions of hugs, food and a bath by a blood-curdling scream and witnessed two young ladies running away from him, bellowing “Aaaaah it‟s a toad, ewwww gross!”
Aaah! A toad! Where?” He shouted jumping with fright onto the nearest thing he could reach which turned out to be a young ladies dress. She screamed and kicked him off.
Ouch! Whatchit Lady!” but before he could explain any futher that he was not in fact a toad, but a brown frog and he was really the party-girls brother…
Aunty Alisha, who cooked most of the time came out (she was usually very nice to Jacques and would make him eggs on toast every morning, but he had just scared a dozen young ladies in her care, and she was busy organising the party) this time she said to the girls, “Don‟t worry, it‟s just a little frog” as she gently picked him up and put him out of the yard she shouted for the girls benefit, “If you don‟t leave my girls alone, I‟ll turn you into dinner for Daniel‟s pet griffin!”
Jacques wondered if Ganymede would really eat him… Aunty Alicia doesn‟t recognise me, why would the griffin?” Jacques said to himself with a dejected sigh as he hopped out of the grounds. It was hard to hop onto his horse with so many bruises; muscles and bones hurt that he didn‟t even know he had. “Well, no lady in Europe, Asia or the Middle East is interested in helping me, perhaps I can go on a ship and try my luck elsewhere,” he thought as he flew to Calais.
Jacques ordered Proteus to fly home as he sneaked aboard a ship, called the De Colores. He was almost invisible among some barrels and ropes, biding his time until the ship was well out to sea. Being small meant he could stay hidden quite well, however on the day it started to rain the frog part of him could not resist hopping out to dance and sing. He was so busy enjoying himself that he did not realise that he had an audience.
If Captain Joshua Glimmer-Sword was surprised to hear a frog aboard his ship singing in French, he was amazed to hear him begin singing in Spanish, the captain‟s own language.
When Jacques realised he had an audience, he started to croak. But Joshua tricked him into talking and inquired how the little frog could talk in human languages, Jacques replied that the captain should sit down and make himself comfortable then began telling the whole story of Cariña, Jacoba and his trip around Europe.
The Captain told Jacques that he was Cariña‟s cousin and how she had been liberated from her tower by an English Dragon-Fighter Carlos, last year. Due to the sad death of his grandfather, Carlos and his new bride had to leave the De Colores to fight dragons around his grandfather‟s area in England, as many green dragons had snuck past when the chief was down. Joshua also mentioned that the ship would arrive in New Caledonia in a few weeks and encouraged our little brown friend that perhaps Jacques would have more luck finding a fearless lady who would kiss him there.
As the ship docked they thanked each other for the French and Portuguese lessons, they had given and received to pass the time and wished each other a safe journey.
Little frogs don‟t like sand very much, it is hot and salty, but soon Jacques was almost dancing in the forest. He was so happy he started to sing again. Bouncing along, Jacques observed a distraught lady; an angel-like beauty who took his breath away with her lovely red hair, soft curls and expressive blue eyes that usually sparkled with joy when she was happy. But today she was sitting by a well crying. As he hopped over to her and asked what was wrong, Jacques recognised her as one of Dominique's friends, Chérie, the sister of Carlos. She was so upset that it didn‟t appear strange to her that she was talking to a frog.
Chérie told him that her ball was at the bottom of the well. She‟d tried to get it out but her fishing net was too short and the tree branch could not grip it. The ball was made of gold and it was the last gift her grandfather had given her, just before he died. She had been sitting thinking of him when the ball slipped from her fingers into the well and now she was worried she would never see it again.
Jacques said “Shall I dive in and fetch it for you?”
Really, you would do that for me?” Chérie whispered through her tears.
It would be my honour”
Thank you. What can I do in return?” She asked, a ray of hope entering into her eyes.
Well, now that you ask, could you kiss me Chérie, if I get the ball back for you?”

The frog asked tentatively.
Oui” she agreed.
So Jacques took a huge breath and dove into the cold water, picked up the ball and began to swim back to the surface.
Cherie reached down, picked up the frog and the ball, thanking him with much joy; she planted a kiss on his cheek.
The little frog started to feel himself changing back into a man. When the metamorphosis was complete, he thanked Chérie, who now recognised her friend‟s brother, Jacques. Cherie could barely contain her shock, seeing a frog change into a man would be astonishing enough for any person. She jumped with fright, and when he turned around and he looked like someone she knew, Chérie had to pinch herself to keep from fainting and to make sure she was not dreaming.
Jacques?” she stammered, still concerned that it was a trick
Oui”, he said excitedly getting ready to hug her… he was so happy to be a man again he did not recognise, at first, that Chérie was concerned.
Ok,” she said holding up her hands and taking a step backwards “if you are really Jacques, than you would know what my favourite animal is”
Butterflies, that was a bit easy, you have at least a thousand.”
Did I really see you as a frog? Or am I dreaming?” she whispered pinching herself again.
Jacques once again told the story of Jacoba and his adventure, as they walked back to her grandmother‟s place where Chérie and her mother were vacationing.
They spent some wonderful days on the islands of New Caledonia where Jacques asked Chérie to be his wife and they were married by a small ceremony in time to keep him human, and saved their reception for France where their friends and family could celebrate with them. Chérie had one condition upon his proposal; never eat insects again... There were her 1000 pet butterflies to consider.
The happy couple continued in the family tradition of Barrel making and racing they had two children born in the same year; Amy, who loved to tinker with her uncles on the carriages and Lucas a boy who couldn‟t keep still, he lived to race. But the siblings had a second claim to fame as they were always known to their friends as the mer-twins… little did their friends realise that they were merely the second best swimmers in their part of the world, their father was the best.
